Nature Play Community Day https://herbfairiesacademy.com/nature-play-community-day/ Wed, 05 Jun 2019 01:56:51 +0000 https://herbfairiesacademy.com/?p=451 On 12th  May at Ngataringa Organic Garden we hosted 2 Conscious Kids groups . This time I enjoyed the help of Remco Bakker – an experienced gardener and sports massage therapist who recently joined as a  volunteer at NOG. Our programme was very rich starting with foraging greens that children gathered for their salad, and herbs to make herbal infusion.

Running this programme  was a real pleasure for us, as our students were not novices with nature or as well as massage . Mums  received very good back massage from their offspring as an unexpected gift for Mother’s Day. Even though the weather was not perfect we all enjoyed our classes  despite frequent showers

Herb Fairies had a Party https://herbfairiesacademy.com/herb-fairies-had-a-party/ Tue, 04 Jun 2019 08:41:43 +0000 https://herbfairiesacademy.com/?p=375

In the winter season, there is not a lot of visitors at Ngataringa Garden, so the Herb Fairies decided to make a party on one of broccoli plants. They have been so happy gossiping and enjoying the sun that they did not notice the camera!  Maybe they were discussing which of them would start the spring season by greeting children again in October?

Meeting with Stinging Nettle Fairy https://herbfairiesacademy.com/meeting-with-stinging-nettle-fairy/ Sun, 28 Apr 2019 23:07:11 +0000 https://herbfairiesacademy.com/?post_type=gc&p=326

Every last Sunday of the Month, Herb Fairies Academy at Ngatarnga Organic Garden in Devonport welcomes children and families interested to know more about herbs. We already had meetings with Melissa – Lemon balm, Viola – and Plantain Fairies. On the last Sunday of April, children were welcomed by Stinging Nettle Fairy. Looking at spikes through a magnifying glass, listening to health properties of the plant, colouring the picture and drinking of tasty nettle infusion made students friends to the Nettle Fairy.
Children enjoyed our organic bananas and took home chokos they had harvested from the NOG Garden fence .
It was a very nice day.

Nice Visit https://herbfairiesacademy.com/nice-visit/ Tue, 13 Nov 2018 15:01:31 +0000 https://herbfairiesacademy.com/?post_type=gc&p=301 At Ngataringa Organic Garden, we love these visits.  On the 5th, November 100 students from the local school visited our garden.
After being welcomed by Graham, Eva briefly introduced the children into secrets of herbs and presented a beautiful natural antibiotic – Nasturtium flower.
Some children were surprised that this beautiful flower can be eaten. Eva didn’t encourage touching another herb – Nettle, because it can be painful even though nettle is very healthy herb. She also demonstrated Plantain, an excellent remedy for bee stings. As usual, the visit was finished with the most popular activity – stroking our friendly hens presented by Graham
