NEW ZEALAND ASSOCIATION OF MEDICAL HERBALISTS (1983) INC.

ANNUAL CONFERENCE & AGM

Honouring the Plants

18th. – 20th MAY 2018, AUT SOUTH, AUCKLAND

Eva opened the conference with a spirited talk sharing her work with children in community gardens running her Herb Faries Academy. Eva not only introduces her young students to growing vegetables, tasting and using herbs, but also exploring them for using them as paints, making worm farms, singing a song about Plantain and hoe to use it, massaging each other, learning about soil, thw whole beutiful shebang! This is biophilia at its most fun.

Eva uses storytelling, song and interactive activities to really encourage childrens imaginations and get them excited about plants. Eva framed this within the greater context of the possibilites of regenerative agriculture to save our planet. The 4/1000 initiative states that increasing carbon the soil by 0.4% per year could solve climate change by decreasing carbon in the atmosphere. The best way to do this? Gardens, gardens, gardens

Eva learnt growing up in agricultural rural Poland and she now instills these learnings in her students: soil is a part of the human soul – what comes from the soil should go back to the soil. Eva’s aim is to share the Herb Fairies model throughout all community gardens in New Zealand.
